What It Is Like to Live in Colin Farrell’s Favourite Town in Ireland

So what is it like to live in the town that Colin Farrell calls his ‘favourite place in Ireland’?

The Oscar-nominated actor has recently revealed that a town in West Cork is his favourite place in Ireland and holds a "special place" in his heart.

The Banshees of Inisherin star revealed the name of his most loved location while on The Late Late Show with James Corden ahead of the Oscars which take place this weekend.

You can read more about what he said in this article here, but I’m going to save you time and tell you: it’s Castletownbere, the beautiful town I call my home.

While I only recently published a blog post about what to see, do and where to stay and eat&drink while here, this blog post is more so about magic, nature and community in this special town.

Castletown is where I spent most of my childhood. Rainy winters with heavy fog that turned our garden into a secluded world of its own. Beautiful summer days that were spent at the beach or with the ponies, exploring the unique and spectacular landscape of Beara.

Since 2021, I call Castletownbere my home again and I’m delighted about it.

Where?

Castletownbere is situated on the Beara Peninsula, on the lip of the Bantry Bay, tucked beside the sea and surrounded by (my favourite!) Slieve Miskish mountains and the majestic Caha Mountains, with Hungry Hill being the highest peak.

Beara’s landscape is rugged, rough, raw. Unpredictable and unpredictably beautiful. There’s always more to see, more to explore, more to admire around the next corner.

Spectacular views, beautiful nature, cute animals, breathtaking beauty.

The Beara Peninsula helps you to reconnect with nature. It makes you slow down. Let’s focus on the important things in life, the wind is telling you - or was it the seagull trying to get a bite off of your delicious waffle from Beara Barista? We’ll never know, but you should definitely listen. Open your eyes, breathe in, until it’s just you and nature.

Back to basics, back to nature, back to yourself.

Beara is fuel to my creativity. Endless ideas, not enough time but a never-ending joy to create … the beauty and magic of Beara makes it possible.

Like I wrote in my blogpost about West Cork, West Cork and Beara are known for their creative community - arts and crafts, storytelling, traditional music and great festivals with delicious food.

Small businesses are always worth supporting, but I want to point out a handful of amazing small businesses from Beara today.

Show them some love, follow, like, share… you know what to do.

What’s left to say is, that yes, I understand why Colin Farrell calls Castletownbere his favourite place in Ireland. He might have different reasons for it but I agree so far: it’s always worth a visit. Come say hi whenever you’re around, follow me on instagram for more photos and (useless) information about the area and contact me if you have any questions. I’m always happy to help.

Etta x
