Why Beara is a paradise for gluten-free foodies

If your mouth isn’t watering, it’s about to be!

I’ve got my mind on the tastiest thing about the Beara Peninsula, which is hands-down the divine food options here.

It’s not just delicious, it’s also gluten-free! What are you craving these days?

1 Beara Barista

Beara Barista offers great coffee and divine, homemade, gluten-and vegan-aware food. The waffles are to die for and the burgers… don’t even get me started. Enjoy your food at the beach with a nice coffee or some refreshing Kombucha.

2 Murphy’s Dursey

Murphy’s Dursey offers the BEST fish & chips I’ve ever had and delicious burgers, all locally sourced and with so many gluten-free options … you’ll love it, trust me!

3 Catcha Coffee

Some coffee places are delicious and some coffee places are fun, but guess what?

Catcha Coffee is BOTH, and you should definitely be ready to enjoy the whole package!

Views of Castletownbere, the valley, harbour, right down into the Bantry Bay, Hungry Hill, Bere Island, Sheep’s Head, Mizen Head… AND delicious coffee, homemade snacks and THE BEST iced latte on top.

Stop at Gour / Castletownbere between 10am and 5pm Thursday-Tuesday to taste it for yourself.

4 Taste

The place with the best coffee in Castletownbere AND homemade gluten-free treats on top! The shop offers everything any coeliac could wish for during their stay.

5 Lynch’s On the Pier

French Toast with maple syrup… gluten-free! Yes you heard right, it’s true. Lynch’s offers great gluten-free options, not only on their breakfast menu but also for lunch.

6 MacCarthy’s Bar

The famous pub is not only the cover of the bestseller ‘McCarthy’s Bar’ by Pete McCarthy. At least as famous as the pub itself and Adrienne MacCarthy (the daughter of famous Aidan MacCarthy) is Adrienne’s sweet pug Herbie. Keeping pugs is a tradition of Adrienne and her sister Niki and I can’t think of a time when there wasn’t one (or more) pug around. The buzzing atmosphere in this pub is special and you’re going to love it here. Please say hi to Adrienne from me if you have the chance of meeting her.

7 O’Donoghue’s

You’ll find great, homemade options for lunch here. The menu changes daily and weekly, so just for their current gluten-free options and you won’t be disappointed.
